The King Of Fighters XV

The story focuses on the next King of Fighters tournament held after the appearance and defeat of Verse. Following Antonov's early retirement, new tournament commissioner Anastasia sends out invitations to fighters to join the tournament; the mayhem caused by Verse's powers resurrects various long-thought deceased fighters from past tournaments as well.

Chizuru Kagura gathers Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami in order to look after the seal of the snake demon Orochi. Shun'ei, a teenager with mysterious powers resembling Verse's, enters the tournament again alongside Meitenkun and Benimaru Nikaido to better understand his powers. During the tournament, they encounter a rival team led by a girl with similar powers to his own, Isla. Isla is being mentored by a woman named Dolores who wishes for her and Shun'ei to stop the appearance of more creatures like Verse, believing Ash Crimson's timetravelling in a previous tournament to have caused their appearance. However, a new creature labeled as Re Verse appears as the tournament progresses and targets the fighters, pulling them into another world. Following Re Verse's defeat, the mysterious goddess Otoma=Raga appears and attacks the teams. Upon Otoma=Raga's defeat, the fighters escape back to their world and are crowned the new King of Fighters champions.

Due to positive response to the marketing of The King of Fighters XIV, director Yasuyuki Oda said in August 2017 that The King of Fighters XV was possible, but SNK also wanted to focus on other franchises. Oda, instead, worked in the spin-off, SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, a female character-driven fighting game and a spiritual sequel of SNK Gals' Fighters. In December 2018, SNK revealed that the company was working on The King of Fighters XV, aiming to release it during 2020. Feeling the previous title had outdated graphics for a 2016 game, SNK chairman Zhihui Ge said that XV will use Unreal Engine 4 to provide a better presentation.

Character design is being handled by Tomohiro Nakata, who is also working on The King of Fighters All Star. Many returning characters received cosmetic changes. For example, Kyo Kusanagi was altered to overall look closer to his earlier appearances in the series, but different in other parts of his design like his jacket and gloves. The decision to revive characters killed off in previous KOF games was made during XIV's development and was based off XIII's themes of energies connecting the past to the present through space and time and Oda wondering how that would affect things in the future. The deceased characters returning for XV were chosen based on fan requests and the aim of the roster was for it to have a 'fresh and festive feel'. They feel like the gathering of the KOF Heroes as well as the return of Team Sacred Treasures and Team Orochi helped them achieve this feeling. They brought back Clemence Bellamy, the story mode announcer from XIV, to appeal to the "tournament-likeness" of KOF and acknowledge that he was well received.

Shatter Strike is a new, armored, meter-powered counterattack that crumples ground opponents or wall-bounces airborne opponents, leaving them ready for a big-damage follow-up. Think of it as a KOF blowback attack that leaves a foe set up for a combo, instead of simply knocking the opponent to the other side of the screen (and you don't need to be in guard to unleash it). Traditional blowback attacks still exist, too.

KOF XV is a terrific fighting game with fun extras, but it's not without flaws. First up, there's no PC-console crossplay, which divides the player base. Considering that KOF XIV has terrific rollback netcode that makes playing distant opponents feel like local matches, it's a shame that PC peeps can't mix it up with console heads. Crossplay would come in especially handy with KOF XV's Party Mode, an online mode that sees all six characters controlled by different people.Secondly, the matchmaking engine doesn't completely do its job. I can find matches in my region without issue, but whenever I try to find bouts elsewhere, error messages pop up. This isn't an isolated issue; people are complaining about it on the KOF XV Steam community forums.

The King of Fighters XV rights SNK's premier fighting game franchise, a series that's suffered a mixed reception since KOF XII. By building upon (and freeing up) KOF XIV's mechanics, adding a strong visual direction, and finally implementing rollback netcode to foster the online community, SNK crafted a contemporary fighting game that hits on every angle. KOF XV may not have Mortal Kombat 11's top-tier graphics, wild narrative, or super-deep modes and unlockables, but it wonderfully succeeds at recreating the arcade/bodega fighting game experience on modern platforms. Hopefully, SNK squashes the online matchmaking issues in short time.

King of Fighters 15 is the fifteenth part of the classic KOF action fighting game series, developed and released by SNK Playmore in 2022. See the graphically advanced newest installment of the epic 2D fighters series that debuted in 1994 on arcade machines! It is a perfect proposition for those who don't know the series and its' loyal fans as well - especially since six years have passed since the last part! So expect monumental changes, numerous improvements, and even more exciting gameplay.

Parents need to know that King of Fighters XV is a fighting game available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Windows PCs.This is the latest installment of the long-running 2D fighting game franchise. The game has players choose a team of three fighters and take on the King of Fighters tournament against AI opponents in the story mode, or jump online and fight other players. The game's combat is straightforward to start with, but there's plenty of depth and a steep learning curve for newer players. A number of the game's female characters are dressed provocatively and some have sexually suggestive animations, and the story mode features semi-frequent but mild profanity.

Despite a tutorial breaking down the games mechanics, a universal autocombo for beginners get used to fighting, and a mission mode to learn basic combos, it would've been nice if the game did more to help new players understand how to use the character moves. With the huge number of fighters in the game, figuring out how everything works can be daunting. Similarly, the game's light on single-player content. The story mode is basic, with only a few cutscenes breaking up a string of fights against an AI opponent, and there aren't any other ways to engage with the game outside of training mode and playing other human opponents. Thankfully, the robust online play makes fighting human opponents easier than ever. If you are looking for a new 2D fighting game with tons to explore and aren't scared of the learning curve, King of Fighters XV is an exclting way to spend your time.

King of Fighters XIV was an unfortunate release. Its predecessor, King of Fighters XIII, is probably one of the best-looking 2D fighting games of all time, so when XIV moved to a 3D engine, complete with ugly character models and rough visual effects, the backlash was inevitable. It was so heavily criticised that SNK actually updated the title years later, improving its graphical capabilities quite dramatically. But still, the damage had been done, and it almost felt unfair, given that XIV sported some typically great gameplay.

Thankfully, King of Fighters XV is another significant step in the right direction. It builds upon XIV's art style with a more vibrant colour palette, better lighting, and more detailed character models. Generally speaking, it's a flashy and fun looking game, even if it still falls noticeably short of its striking 2D predecessors.

The three-on-three system is still at the core of King of Fighters' identity. Unlike other team-based brawlers, such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, you're not switching between your chosen combatants at will, and there are no assists. As such, team composition is more about picking characters that you enjoy playing as, and with XV's sizeable roster, discovering favourites is actually one of the most enjoyable parts of the game.

@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, I never got anything more than average at best. In my college days when I had a bit more time I tried to play some sports games and FPS online and could do ok but once I was out of school and started working I went back to singleplayer only, even for games that put a clear focus on multiplayer, such as KoF, Street Fighter, etc.

@awp69 I don't know how anyone can compare this game to Strive and think Strive is the better game. Is it graphically superior? Sure, easily. But KOF has no overly simplified mechanics, instead the game builds on what has come before in the series with MAX-less EX moves and Shatter Strike, it has no gutted movesets, despite adding some things for newer players such as autocombos and making climax inputs universal the game clearly respects the fanbase that has followed it for decades, it has a sensibly designed lobby system instead of a bizarre Habbo Hotel looking thing, it launched with 39 characters instead of a paltry 15, it features over 300 music tracks from all over KOF and SNK history, it has all sorts of soulful little touches like special intros between characters, unique announcer voice overs for story mode, and some cute special secret endings. None of the e-sports pandering nonsense Capcom has gone for in recent years either.Strive was fun for a bit, but I got bored very quickly, there just isn't much to do there, player expression was clearly not a priority at all over appealing to new players. This game here is easily a 9/10 for me, one of the first true and pure fighting games in years.
