Summary

The novel follows Tretch Farm, a 15-year-old boy who lives in a small town called Warmouth with his parents and his older brother, Joe. Tretch has a secret: he is gay and he is in love with his best friend, Matt Gooby, who is straight and has a girlfriend named Amy. Tretch knows that Matt will never feel the same way about him, but he can't help his feelings.

Tretch also has to deal with other challenges in his life, such as his family's lack of understanding of his true self, his crush on the girl who works at the local bookstore, and his bully at school who constantly harasses him. Tretch tries to cope by dancing alone in his room to his favorite songs, writing in his journal, and spending time with Matt and Amy.

Things start to change when Joe comes home from college for Christmas and reveals that he is dating a guy named Leon. Tretch is happy for his brother, but also jealous that he can't be as open about his sexuality. He wonders if he should come out to his family and friends, or if he should keep pretending to be someone he's not.

Meanwhile, Matt invites Tretch to go with him and Amy to New York City for New Year's Eve. Tretch agrees, hoping that this will be an opportunity to get closer to Matt and maybe even confess his feelings. However, things don't go as planned, and Tretch realizes that he has to make some decisions about his future.
