Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is a fun and fascinating game with a bit of an identity crisis. In one corner you have an explosively intense multiplayer real-time strategy experience, brimming with savagely satisfying competition. In the other, you have an odd and somewhat enjoyable single-player campaign that plays more like an action role-playing game than an RTS. The relationship between these two disparate entities is superficial; the structure and gameplay of the campaign has little in common with that of your skirmishes against other players or the computer. It's a bizarre dichotomy that doesn't always work, but online play is so deeply rewarding that the scattered campaign missteps are easily forgiven.

Ten years after the happenings in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising, the sector Aurelia is still the scene of heavy fights between Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and Tyranids. But now the Imperial Guard (the new faction) is fed up with this and has a permanent solution in mind: exterminating all life in the whole Sector... This is the initial situation for the 16 missions long campaign which can be tackled with any of this six factions. The missions itself stay the same in principle but the choice of faction changes how they proceed, e.g. a boss enemy for one faction may be a playable hero for another faction. The plot is told in dialogues and cutscenes in game graphics (plus a few render sequences).

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is set in the far distantfuture. The 41st millennium is a dark, forbidding place, ravaged bythousands of years of conflict. Across this gothic universe hugearmies struggle for victory in a battle to the death. Visualizingaction on this scale for two and half minutes required a depth ofskill and resources rarely found at traditional animationhouses.

Dawn of War II is the official sequel to Relic's previous RTS series, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. It uses the same graphics engine as Relic's other RTS title, Company of Heroes, inheriting several elements of that game in the process such as directional cover. 041b061a72
